La Mirada~La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts & McCoy Rigby Entertainment are thrilled to present the second show of their 2011-2012 season with the LADCC, GARLAND and LA WEEKLY award-winning musical for Best Production, Life Could Be a Dream, written and directed by Roger Bean (The Marvelous Wonderettes), with musical direction by Michael Paternostro, choreography by Lee Martino and featuring the original cast who performed in both the Hudson Theatre and Laguna Playhouse productions!

SH-BOOM! From the "marvelous" mind of creator Roger Bean, comes another trip to Springfield where we meet the "Crooning Crabcakes," the boy group banned from the Springfield High School prom which made it possible for "The Marvelous Wonderettes" to perform there.

Youth Compete for Prizes at Annual Fishing Derby

La Mirada~The 15th annual Knabe Katch Youth Fishing Derby will take place Saturday October 29th at La Mirada Regional Park from 8 a.m-1 p.m.

Last year, over 1,000 youth participated in the derby, competing for prizes. Free t-shirts will be offered to anglers, with crafts and other activities also available.

The event is hosted by Los Angeles  County Supervisor  and former Mayor of Cerritos, Don Knabe, in conjunction with the State Department of Fish and Game, LA County Fish and Game Commission, local organizations, and the City of La Mirada-to introduce children to respect our water sources and the wonders of fishing.

A free pancake breakfast provided by The Kiwanis Club of La Mirada will be offered  beginning at 7:00 a.m.

Halloweenfest at Neff Park Today

La Mirada~The annual Halloweenfest will offer safe and festive fun today from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the historic Neff Estate at Neff Park.

This free event will feature a haunted house, games, crafts and a costume contest for patrons and their pets.

The costume contest will be held according to the following schedule:

Pets: 4:40 p.m.

Children: Ages 2 & under, 5 p.m., 3 to 5 at 5:30 p.m., 6 to 8 at 6 p.m., 9 to 12 at 6:30 p.m., and 13 & up at 7 p.m.

Participants will collect candy at various booths throughout the night. This family-oriented event is perfect for all ages. For more information, call Community Services at (562) 943-7277.

Programs For Young Audiences Series Season Debut; Bring the Kids to See Their Favorite Book on Stage

La Mirada~La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts kicks off its 2011-12 Programs for Young Audiences series with Theatreworks USA's Charlotte's Web based on the Newbery Medal-winning book by E.B. White. This 60-minute play is recommended for audiences ages 4 and up. Performances are Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

CRIME REPORT: Five Grand Thefts Occur in LM Last Week

The following is the crime report for La Mirada October 10-16, 2011

Aggravated Assault

Two assaults were reported. An assault was reported on the 15100 block of Alicante Rd. It is still under investigation. A domestic assault was reported on the 14500 block of Stage Rd.

Residential Burglary

Two burglaries were reported at a residence on the 14600 block of Fairvilla Dr. The two incidents occurred two months apart.

Other Structure Burglary

Two separate thefts from gym lockers were reported on the 13300 block of Beach Blvd. Various personal items were taken in both thefts.

Vehicle Burglary

Four vehicle burglaries were reported last week. A burglary occurred on the 15200 block of Badlona Dr. A window smash burglary was reported on the 12800 block of Oakwood Lane. A purse was stolen in that incident. A second window smash burglary was reported on the 13300 block of Kilkenny Court. Stereo and golf equipment were stolen from a vehicle on the 15900 block of Alicante Rd.

NEW! Food Truck Lineup Announced for La Mirada High

La Mirada~The Gourmet Food Truck Lineup at La Mirada High School has been announced for this week.

Participating at the school Thursday October 27th from 5:00-9:30 p.m. are: Brats Berlin, Jogasaki, Shrimp Pimp, Phamish, Rebel Bite and Bakery Truck.

The event serves as a fundraiser for the athletics department and is held in the administration parking lot.

Sheriff’s Station to Host Haunted Jail and Open House

Norwalk~The Norwalk Sheriff's Station is holding a free Halloween event- a Haunted Jail and Open House on Sat.,Oct. 22 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The jail will be filled with ghouls, ghosts, monsters and the living dead. The Station parking lot will contain displays, a Sheriff's helicopter, "Bert" the sheriff's camel, and Sheriff's Department vehicles and motorcycles.

Face painting and a bounce house will be available for children.  A free hot dog lunch will also be served.

Dine Out and Support Ebell Scholarship Program

La Habra~The La Mirada Ebell Club and Applebee's Restaurant will co-host a "Dining to Donate" event Tuesday, Oct. 18 at the La Habra eatery, 1238 W. Imperial Hwy., La Habra.

Flyers must be presented to wait staff upon ordering, so as to alert management to give 15% of that party's check to Ebell for its scholarship program.

Flyers also will be honored at Applebee's "car-side-to-go" area, according to Beverly Franck, chairman.

Come out and eat and assist the youth in the La Mirada area at the same time. Flyers may be picked up at the La Mirada Activity Center. Or call Marilyn at (562) 944-0585 for delivery or more information.

CRIME REPORT: Thieves Turn Their Sights on Older Toyota Trucks; Lock Your Vehicles at All Times to Minimize Chance of Burglary

La Mirada~The following is the crime report for La Mirada the week of October 3-9, 2011:

Residential Burglary

Two residential burglaries were reported last week. An incident occurred on the 11700 block of Gayview Dr. A second burglary was reported on the 12700 block of Biola Ave. Jewelry was stolen in both incidents.

Other Structure Burglary

A burglary was reported on the 13300 block of Hillsborough Drive. Several plants were stolen.
